Every year more than two million Muslims celebrate Hajj by making the pilgrimage to Mecca in what is the world’s biggest annual gathering of people. Within this mass of humanity are thousands of Muslims, many of whom will have saved for years in the knowledge that, for them, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Unfortunately as Hajj approaches there will also be a significant number of Muslims who have paid for a tour package for themselves and their family only to discover their dreams have been shattered by fraudsters. Some could arrive in Saudi Arabia to find the accommodation they booked does not exist. Others may realise that their whole trip is in fact a scam set up by illegitimate travel operators who have disappeared with thousands of riyals of their money.
What it does
Al Hajj chain is a Blockchain based web application that brings all entities related from pilgrims ,travel agents, and hotels in one network. Al Hajj chain can be leveraged to avoid such pitiful scenarios and help consumers verify the properties and vice versa, which reduce fraud significantly and add transparency between all the entities.
The service will be hosted by the Suadi Government (Internal Agency) where they can register and authenticate the External Agencies around the world. Each agency can propose their Hajj packages through this service, so they can be reviewed and approved by the Internal Agency. Once they are approved they will be available for the customer. This will ensure that the available packages provided by External agancies are surely approved. The package contain information as: • ID (unqiue) • Type • Total price • Service price • Transportation type and fees • Hotels in Makka, Mandinah and Muna. • No of registered pilgrims
Hotels are also an entity where they register their pricing, location, type, available rooms and capacity.
Registering those informations in blockchain will prevent later unauthorized modification, offer changing or favouritism for Hajj who pay extra money. Moreover, it will prevent duplicate bookings for services and packages, whether due to fraud or errors.
This service will give the Pilgrim transparent tool to register and verify their registration for the whole Hajj experience.
How we built it
- We will use Hyperledger Fabric, a permissioned source project as our Blockchain platform.
- We will use angular to build the web application.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing a solution from a serious customer need. Building the infrastructure of the project delivering a working prototype for our idea.
What we learned
Working as team and doing our best even under stress or long sleepless hours:)
