Inspiration
I realized that for most people, retirement is a massive "blind spot." We ignore our pensions because they feel abstract, distant, and—frankly—boring. Most AI tools in this space just offer better calculators or prettier charts. But a chart doesn't motivate you to save; a vision does.
I wanted to build an agent that could bridge the gap between today’s cash flows and tomorrow’s dreams. My goal was to turn the dreaded pension planning into a living, breathing storyboard that people actually want to engage with. I wanted to move the conversation from a dry PDF to a high-fidelity future.
What it does
Akira is a multimodal "Thinking Partner" that transforms the way we face our financial future. Instead of filling out forms, you have a live, two-way conversation.
Sees the Truth: You point your camera at your bank or pension statements. Akira uses computer vision to instantly spot "fee leaks" and high-cost "zombie" funds that act as financial blind spots.
Builds the Dream: As you talk about your ideal retirement—whether it's a coastal cottage or a city studio—Akira generates a live-updating storyboard.
The "Red Alert" Feedback: If your current savings don't match your dream, the storyboard reacts in real-time. If you’re short on funds, the vibrant AI-generated "dream house" might start to fade or age, giving you a visceral, emotional reason to optimize your investments today.
How we built it
The architecture is built entirely on the Google Cloud ecosystem to ensure real-time responsiveness:
Gemini Live API & ADK: Used to create the interruptible, voice-first coaching experience.
Multimodal Vision: Leveraged Gemini to "read" physical documents through the camera and interpret the user's current lifestyle environment.
Interleaved Creative Engine: Used Nano Banana (Imagen) and Veo to weave text, images, and video into a single, fluid output stream.
Backend: Hosted on Google Cloud via Vertex AI for model grounding and Cloud Run for high-speed financial calculation logic.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was orchestrating the "Visual Logic." We had to ensure that when the financial data changed, the generated imagery responded accurately without losing the user's specific dream context.

What's next for Akira - your fiendly digital hood pension whisperer
The horizon is big for Akira. We plan to integrate UI Navigation capabilities, allowing Akira to actually log in (with user permission) to various investment platforms to "click through" the sub-menus and automatically consolidate multiple "zombie" pensions into one low-cost pot. We want to move Akira from being a storyteller to being a financial navigator that executes the plan she helps you build.
