Inspiration
People consume endless advice but still struggle to decide what to do next. Inspired by Simon’s brief and a love for minimalist systems, I wanted to build calm AI coaching that delivers clarity without noise. "Akili" (Swahili for 'mind') reflects that focus on clear thinking.
What it does
Akili is a minimalist AI coaching app that helps users think clearly and take small, actionable steps. Users choose an AI coach and start chatting instantly, with premium features unlocked via subscriptions.
How I built it
I built Akili using React Native (Expo), TypeScript, AI chat APIs, and RevenueCat for subscription management. The app is designed around a simple loop: choose a coach → chat → act.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was keeping the experience intentionally minimal while ensuring the AI responses stayed useful, focused, and human.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
- A polished, demo-ready MVP
- Calm, well-scoped AI coaches
- Clean RevenueCat monetization
- Fast, intuitive user experience
## What I learned Great AI products are about clarity, constraints, and thoughtful prompts — not complexity. Monetization works best when it aligns naturally with value. ## What's next for Akili I plan to add more specialized coaches, improve long-term memory, enable coach sharing, and expand Akili across platforms while preserving its minimalist core.
