Inspiration

Women's safety is a crucial issue, and it's time for a unique solution. That's why we created Akatsuki, a Korean word meaning "Bright helper". This android app is designed to give women peace of mind, no matter where they are. Even in the most remote and distant locations, Akatsuki is there to provide support and prevent panic. This app is unlike any other SOS app on the market, and we are confident it will make a real difference in the lives of women everywhere.

What it does

Akasuki can help you add people to our server to whom our app will share location details in case of SOS.

It allows people to manage how the SOS capability will be handled by defining toggles that can enable/disable SMS SOS / WhatsApp SOS / Nearby SOS.

How we built it

We have used Amazon AWS Pinpoint, and SNS to relay SMS from the client's mobile to our backend, our backend then processes the incoming request, and all the provided emergency contacts based on the preference get notified.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Reading SMS that was sent from the client's mobile to AWS-provided mobile number.
  2. Validating the OTP using API.
  3. Based on the connectivity status, change the method of SOS alert.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have successfully been able to integrate AWS pinpoint with SNS which further pushes notifications to our service for further processing.

What we learned

NodeJS, React Native, AWS services, heroku, AWS SNS , Pinpoint

What's next for Akasuki : Women SOS App

  1. Building the AI and detecting from the surroundings if SOS is important or not.
  2. Capture images from back-front camera on taping SOS and sending it on cloud.
