Inspiration

WorkBuds was conceived with the purpose of establishing an unified social platform for employees to interact with one another . The rationale for this is that we are cognisant that working from home appears to be a popular choice amongst Singaporeans, based on the survey consolidated by the Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC Bank.

What it does

We will be implementing an Incentive Model to encourage employees to be proactive and to reach out to their colleagues. In so doing, they will be rewarded with points which can then be exchanged for a preferred gift of their choice.

How I built it

Leveraging on Artificial Intelligence as well as Data Analytics, WorkBuds will be able to extract inherent compatibility and to match employees who share similar interests as well as skills.

Challenges I ran into

Taken in totality, Jaslyn spearheaded the background research and fundamental analysis of the legal questions, while Jun Jie, Marcus and Alvin were proactive in the development of the application. Finally, Jaslyn consolidated the presentation slide deck.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We recommend a three-pronged approach in scaling up our application, where we examine this from the (1) individual perspective, (2) team perspective, then the macro (3) company perspective. Firstly, employees would have to share about their current work projects, in addition to the highlights of their career. Secondly, a team manager could be assigned to conduct well being checks through anonymous surveys, as well as organise team bonding activities and team bonding chats on a weekly basis, as well as a monthly basis. Thirdly, the company ought to promote an inclusive firm-wide culture and encourage cohesion.

What I learned

In considering the long-term growth potential of the development of our application, we consider the sweet spot as the intersection between desirability, profitability as well as feasibility.
