Inspiration

Have you ever met the parking problems whether you drive to University or an event like Dark Mofo? We have. This is where our idea started. Under the high pressure of the growing population and cost to travel, our idea is to make every trip more efficient and environment-friendly.

What it does

This application is based on the Wechat platform. The big advantage is that we shall never worry about lacking of users. Every Wechat user can be our customer. People can either be a driver or a passenger in this app. Passengers can find a car and drivers can find passengers when they go to the same destination. And we have a rating system for both of drivers and passengers. They can decide to choose each other depends on how many stars they have on the rating system.

How we built it

Javascript and HTML are the two languages we used to build this application. It has three steps to build this application. Firstly, we have a team meeting about our idea and make sure every detail is being considered thoroughly. For example, we not only think about how we build this app and also need to understand where the risk and problem could be. Secondly, we need to find the resources to build this app such as codes, pictures and videos. Then we need to modify these things in order to fulfil our needs. The last part is to test our app on the Wechat platform and make sure it can actually work on it.

Challenges we ran into

We met a great difficulty to find appropriate resources we need and the new software development tool causes a lot of bugs within our code. It took a huge amount of time to just make things work. We also met such a conflict between our business model and ideal project, which is all about making money and spending money.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of our application we have so far. When we can actually see it works on Wechat, that was the best time for us in these three days work.

What we learned

We can discuss what we learned from this job in two different perspectives. From the project perspective, we understood a lot better about how hard to create and make a project work. From the team perspective, we learned how to work and cooperate together. We think this is the great thing we learned from this job.

What's next for Carpool program

As our application continually grows, we would like to work more in the business area. For example, we can talk to some event holders such as Dark Mofo, Mid-Winter festival and encourage more people to be their visitors by carpooling together on our application. That is what we hope to archive in the future.
