Inspiration
The inspiration for airlinedelay.lol came from the constant frustration travelers face with unexpected flight delays and cancellations. Many times, flight delay notifications come too late, and travelers are left scrambling for alternatives or stuck with no options. We wanted to build a solution that not only predicts delays but also provides actionable insights and automatic rescheduling, making air travel smoother and stress-free.
What it does
airlinedelay.lol is an AI-powered platform designed to predict flight delays, help reschedule flights, and assist travelers with managing their flight itineraries through an intelligent email assistant. It has two key features:
Urgent Assist: For real-time flight delays, cancellations, and rebooking assistance. It leverages real-time flight data and with the power of AI, predicts the likelihood of delays and how long the delay might be. Then, if a traveller is looking to rebook their flight owing to a high probability delay prediction, it finds the best available flight options suiting their itinerary and guides them through rebooking the flights.
Gradual Assist: An AI-powered email client that reads incoming emails about flights and allows users to query information like delay status, cancellation options, and alternate flights directly from their inbox.
How we built it:
We built airlinedelay.lol using a stack of modern technologies: Next.js with TypeScript for the frontend and seamless UI interactions. APIs: We leveraged several APIs we discovered during our extensive research - some of the key ones are: Amadeus flight search API, AviationStack flight API
Challenges we ran into:
One of the biggest challenges we encountered was ensuring that the delay predictions were as accurate as possible by aggregating data from different sources in real time. Additionally, managing the complexity of real-time rerouting suggestions while optimizing for both time and cost required fine-tuning the algorithms. Another challenge was integrating the AI email assistant to interact seamlessly with various airline booking systems and email formats.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re incredibly proud of how airlinedelay.lol brings real-time actionable insights to travelers. From automating the rescheduling process to providing real-time alerts and refunds, we believe we’ve built a solution that tackles some of the most stressful aspects of air travel. We also successfully implemented an AI-driven email assistant that helps users manage flight disruptions directly from their inbox.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we learned a lot about working with real-time APIs, optimizing routes with multiple variables, and integrating AI for email automation. We also learned how to enhance user experience with a smooth and intuitive UI built using Next.js, as well as handling a large volume of real-time data without compromising performance.
What's next for airlinedelay.lol
We’re excited to continue expanding airlinedelay.lol by integrating more features like automated compensation claims, personalized travel suggestions, and even loyalty program integrations. Our next steps also include improving our AI email assistant to handle more complex queries and provide even better suggestions for rebooking flights. Additionally, we plan to partner with airlines to offer exclusive rescheduling deals and automated upgrades for delayed passengers.
