Inspiration
All of us feel like we need to travel more. With our flexible schedules, we'd like to be able to learn about new destinations and flights that can take us there in cheapest way that best fits what's learned about the user
What it does
Behaves as a tinder app, where you can like or dislike various activities that are going on in cities best adapted to your profile. As you're swiping we, churn through this data and build a model that allows us to quickly recommend the best potential flight matches
How we built it
We built the product on top of React and Redux for the client side. We leveraged Google's powerful google app engine to handle heavy calculations and model inference for each profile. The result is a feed of flights and destinations you have matched with that gets shown in a convenient way on the bottom of the screen.
Challenges we ran into
Debugging issues on the server side using Python
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our slick animation on the phone. On top of this, we are proud to use the app and see that the more we like the better the future questions are and the better the matched destinations can be.
What we learned
We've learned that building a backend in a dynamically typed language is challenging for debugging purposes.
What's next for airends
To fine tune our app and to include things like, OAuth, SSE, and other great technologies that will help us seed data and better throttle our matches.
