Inspiration

Pilgrimage season 2014 an unfortunate pilgrim had an asthmatic seizure. As misfortune struck he was diabetic complicating the situation. Luckily a fellow pilgrim had the paramedical training needed for this specific type of seizures. Safe to say that this pilgrim had survived, he is a neighbour of mine. he got saved by my half-brother, I am telling this from the viewpoint of both of them.
Now, what if the situation was much dire than a seizure? how should a paramedic or doctor respond without a decent history? or basic medical information like blood type?

What it does

We store the medical history of each of the pilgrims in association to their Hajj ID. We use an NFC tag that is linked to the pilgrim's unique id as a key to quickly retrieve their history. for the sake of demonstration we use basic medical data like blood type, etc.

How we built it

a mobile application was our choice for the general used entry point, as they are ubiquitous in manner and well rounded in OS and sensors. We built an android app that has the data linked to it. Using PHP and an SQL server for our basic backend, the unique user id is obtained through a simulated situation of a valid face or fingerprint has been recognised.

Challenges we ran in to

get the PHP backend to work with our querying.
Finding a simpler method to deploy and add face recognition to our application. Settling on an idea with a viable business plan. Team communication and task distribution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Staying calmly nervous for the duration of the hackathon.

What we learned

The importance of idea design before application design. Learning new technology frameworks/ SDK in less than 6 hours. That we do love to challenge our selves.

What's next for AirBreather Hajj

First on the list is to iron the idea further, explore different applications and future impact of analyzing medical data on emergency response. We aim to add auxiliary data layers to improve the level of prediction. Hajj ID's are linked to the pilgrim's biometric data. we use these data to quickly obtain the pilgrims' files. through both face recognition and fingerprint scan.
