Inspiration
We live in Bangkok currently and have to keep an eye on the air quality to know if we should allow our daughter to go to the park or if she has to play inside. Many parents in Asia have to make these kinds of decisions daily.
What it does
You ask Alexa what the air quality index in your area is, and she reports the AQI, and what that means for you.
How I built it
Using an API for Air Quality Index I was able to utilize live data from hundreds of stations around the world monitoring air quality.
Challenges I ran into
Getting the API working was the hardest part.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I hope this makes it easier for parents to make decisions about their kid's safety, and I know we'll at least use the app in our home.
What I learned
I learned some things about using an external API for my applications.
What's next for Air Quality Index
I think this will remain a simple skill, and I don't anticipate adding a lot of new features to it, the hook is keeping a consistent data source for air quality in your area, which you need to get every day.
