Inspiration:
We were inspired by the elderly people who reside in our team's rural community who lack a tight-knit connections with others, especially youth, to help them navigate the difficulties of everyday life at an old age. Often, social impact focuses on issues such as mental health and younger generation's health; however, the older generation is much too overlooked--dismissed as unable to adapt to the current times.
What it does:
Aiderly matches local volunteers with the elderly who need assistance, whether it is attending to emergency falls or running grocery errands.
How we built it:
We explored Palantir's beta Pilot's generative capabilities, were inspired by previous backend systems of Los Altos Hacks projects and created custom assets for frontend.
Challenges we ran into:
A challenge we ran into was that the Register Volunteer function we implemented was not registering volunteers for some reason into our database, so the volunteer matching system was dysfunctional upon deployment. We had to work around this by using the preview instead for demo showcasing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We are proud of the thoughtfulness we put into UI/UX to maximize accessibility to seniors
What we learned
We learned that an app is more than just functionality--thoughtfulness into the user and the corresponding UI is just as important. We also learned the value of perseverance because our app has failed us multiple times, especially the chat box feature in deployment.
What's next for Aiderly:
We hope to partner with companies that cater to the elderly demographic to scale deployment further.
