Inspiration

For small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), technical downtime is an expensive nightmare. Most SMBs cannot afford a full-time, dedicated IT Administrator. Simple issues—like a frozen printer spooler, a disconnected network drive, or a full disk—can completely halt daily business operations for hours while waiting for external support. Having faced these frustrating technical bottlenecks ourselves, we decided to build Aiden: a 24/7 autonomous digital IT employee that resolves system issues instantly.

What it does

Aiden is an autonomous IT support agent that translates plain-English employee complaints into safe, local system repairs. Instead of chatting with a generic bot that only gives theoretical advice, users tell Aiden what is wrong (e.g., "I can't print my invoices"). Aiden's Gemini-powered brain automatically diagnoses the root cause, triggers a targeted PowerShell playbook on the local Windows machine, and presents the user with a single-click [ Repair ] button to securely execute the fix in seconds.

Our MVP focuses on three highly critical agents:

  • The Printing Agent: Automatically clears stuck queues, diagnoses the spooler service, and restarts it.
  • The File-Share Agent: Restores broken SMB/Samba network paths and clears stale credentials.
  • The Storage Agent: Safely cleans system caches and temporary directories when the disk is full.

How we built it

  • The Brain (Backend): A lightweight FastAPI server deployed on Linux, utilizing the Google Cloud platform and the Gemini API to analyze, classify, and orchestrate the incoming incidents.
  • The Muscle (Client-side): A native Windows automation layer that runs secure, isolated PowerShell scripts based on the specific playbooks determined by the Gemini orchestration engine.
  • Prototyping: We leveraged Google AI Studio to refine and test our incident classification prompts for near-perfect routing accuracy.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was bridging the gap between natural language and safe execution. Allowing an AI to run arbitrary system commands is a massive security and stability risk. We solved this by designing a rigid "Playbook-only" architecture. The AI never writes or invents code on the fly; instead, it acts as a triaging officer, selecting and configuring pre-defined, secure PowerShell scripts that only run after explicit human confirmation via the "Repair" button.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully deployed Aiden to real-world testers in active small businesses. Seeing a non-technical employee successfully resolve a complex printing service failure on their own in under a minute—without needing to wait for an external IT technician—was an incredible validation of our mission and demonstrated immediate business impact.

What we learned

We learned that when it comes to IT support for non-technical users, simplicity and actionability are much more valuable than chatty interfaces. Users don't want a long explanation of why their system is failing; they want a clear diagnosis and a single button to make the problem go away. We also gained deep insights into structuring robust prompt classification workflows to handle diverse, informal user descriptions of technical problems.

What's next for Aiden

We plan to scale Aiden's agent catalog to support Microsoft Active Directory account unlocks, Outlook profile repairs, and network adapter diagnostics. Ultimately, our goal is to build Aiden into a full-scale multi-tenant SaaS platform, helping thousands of SMBs globally keep their operations running smoothly without the overhead of high IT costs.
