Inspiration
Most people don't skip the doctor because they don't care — they skip because the system is too hard to navigate. Language barriers, insurance confusion, and hour-long hold times create a wall between patients and the care they need. We built Aida to tear that wall down.
What it does
Aida (Appointment Intelligence and Data Agent) is a mobile health platform that eliminates the friction between a patient's health data and a confirmed doctor's appointment — in under two minutes. It combines biometric analysis, multilingual AI health summarization, and an autonomous outbound voice agent that calls clinics, verifies insurance, and books appointments on the patient's behalf.
How we built it
We built Aida on a few core technologies working in sequence. Apple Health gathers data and is fed to a medically-tailored Gemini model to create a health summary. Gemini then translates that health summary into plain-language insights in the patient's language. Finally, ElevenLabs powers an autonomous voice agent that makes the outbound call, navigates the clinic's phone system, verifies insurance, and locks in the appointment.
Challenges we ran into
Coordinating three distinct AI systems — a biometric analysis layer, a language model, and a voice agent — into a seamless, sub-two-minute pipeline presented significant integration complexity. We also had to think carefully about how health data flows between services in a way that's both functional and trustworthy for vulnerable users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of achieving an end-to-end flow — from raw health data to a confirmed appointment — in under two minutes. We're also proud of building something genuinely accessible: multilingual support and a fully automated calling experience means patients don't need to speak English or navigate a phone tree to get care.
What we learned
Designing for underserved users — immigrants navigating a foreign healthcare system, parents managing a child's chronic condition — forced us to prioritize simplicity and trust above all else. Every unnecessary step or second of friction is a reason for a vulnerable user to give up.
What's next for Aida
We want to expand language support, deepen insurance verification capabilities, and integrate with more clinic scheduling systems to increase booking success rates. Longer term, we see Aida becoming a persistent health advocate — proactively flagging when a patient's biometrics suggest they should schedule a follow-up, before they even think to ask.
