The Project
This past year, we've seen an enormous need for emergency resources, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires, and hurricanes. We decided to create an application for those needing emergency aid to find it fast. Even with tools like Google, it takes time to manually search for hospitals, aid stations, grocery stores, and other necessities during an emergency, when time is limited. Our app efficiently gets you to what you need.
How we built it
The demo is built in React, but we also explored using Swift. Data is pulled from the Google Maps API.
Challenges and accomplishments
We definitely encountered a lot of challenges. Going into this, none of us had experience with web or app development, so we mostly spent this time exploring different tools. We didn't get as far as we hoped, and the site is not fully functioning, but we still learned a lot.
What's next for Aid Map
We want to add more of the core functionality to the application, and we also had many other ideas in mind, such as options for people to offer up aid and resources to others.
