Inspiration
Are you lazy like us and just don't have any time to plan for a big spring break trip? Well what if there was an AI tool that works as a travel buddy, tour guide, and friend!
What it does
My Travel Buddy is an AI programmed tool that allows users to enter their destination and book flights, hotels, and transportation all in one place. Additionally, it creates specially curated itineraries for the chosen destination, allowing for fast accessibility and a user-friendly platform. Given the inputs on the page it will feed that information into the gpt api at which point it will recommend ideas on travel and create somewhat of an itinerary based on this. The api will gather information based on current day travel flights and prices to the specified location and return what it believes are the best option to the user.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS to design the layout of the website and its appearance. For the backend part, we used JavaScript to code the software for our website.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into technical errors in the beginning as it was our first time creating a website. Moreover, when working in a team it was hard to get all the updated versions of our code that we created, which later on had us face challenges when putting all the components together. Getting the GPT API was also more difficult than anticipated as the API key wouldn't work and just overall getting a server setup just wasn't working.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are so proud how our project turned out, considering it was all of our first times creating a website as wells as participating in a hackathon!
What we learned
We learned that in order to create the best outcome of a project, we all need to put in more time to work together rather than individually, so we know everyone's thoughts and opinions, while discussing what would be the best for our final product.
What's next for My Travel Buddy
In the future, we strive to update My Travel Buddy, so that it becomes more user-friendly and easily accessible. Furthermore, we are going to add more components such as autocorrect when entering a location or destination.
