Inspiration
Well, mostly, procrastination. Just like any good last-minute project, this creation has its roots in someone procrastinating over getting their data structures homework done.
What it does
Our project primarily simulates traffic on a city-like grid of streets, at the same time using a reinforcement learning model to control the traffic lights and speed limits of each road.
How we built it
How did we build this, you ask? Well, it started out with a bit of over-the-shoulder coding and gradually devolved into a maelstrom of research, generative AI, and an amazing number of merge conflicts.
Challenges we ran into
AI is hard. Especially when no one on your team has ever used it before, at least in the way you intend to. Then, there are the standard challenges of dealing with sleep deprivation and working with other people.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Survival Building a working traffic simulation Building two separate AI models to manage it
What we learned
Maybe a little less ambitious next time? Or at least try out a few libraries ahead.
What's next for AI Traffic Management
Sleep. Then, maybe an update or two for the fun of it, but most importantly, more sleep.
