Inspiration

While browsing the web, I often found myself sifting through lengthy text. There are numerous AI extensions available for text summarization, but they all share a common drawback: they compromise user privacy by processing data through third-party service providers.

With Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM, this concern is eliminated, ensuring that all data remains secure and private on the user’s device.

What it does

The AI Summarizer Chrome extension leverages the on-device Gemini Nano model to generate concise summaries of user selected text directly within the browser.

What we learned

Creating the AI Summarizer taught me how to work with Gemini APIs and provided valuable insights into the upcoming native AI capabilities of web browsers.

What's next for AI Summarizer

I plan to enhance its functionality by adding the ability to summarize entire web pages seamlessly. Additionally, I am exploring the potential of integrating Writer and Rewriter APIs to further enrich the extension's capabilities.
