Inspiration

Students often struggle to understand complex study materials, diagrams, and lengthy PDFs. We created AI StudyMate to make studying easier, more interactive, and personalized with AI.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was helping the AI understand diagrams as well as text extracted from PDFs. We also worked on retrieving relevant information, displaying source and page citations, integrating different features, and handling API and network errors during development.

What we learned

We learned how to combine retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases, multimodal AI, and web application development. We also gained practical experience integrating AI services into an educational application.

What's next for AI StudyMate: Multimodal AI Study Assistant

We plan to improve answer accuracy, support more learning materials such as lecture slides and videos, enhance personalized learning recommendations, and make AI StudyMate more useful and accessible to students.
