Inspiration
Students often struggle to convert long notes, textbooks, or syllabus topics into clear, exam-ready study material. While many AI tools exist, most provide generic explanations that are not optimized for exams. ExamWise was inspired by the need for a focused study companion that helps students understand concepts clearly, identify what matters most for exams, and practice effectively—all in one place.
What it does
ExamWise is an AI-powered study companion built with Google Gemini 3. Students enter a topic or paste raw notes and select an explanation level—Beginner, Intermediate, or Exam-Focused. The app then generates structured, step-by-step explanations, highlights exam-important key points, creates practice questions with answer explanations, and produces concise revision summaries. This helps students study smarter and prepare efficiently for exams.
How we built it
ExamWise was built using a clean, education-focused dashboard interface with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Google Gemini 3 is the core engine behind the application. A prompt-driven design is used to control explanation depth, structure content for exams, generate practice questions, and explain answers using reasoning. The UI was designed to be minimal and readable, ensuring that learning output—not UI complexity—remains the focus.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was ensuring that Gemini-generated content stayed exam-focused rather than becoming overly descriptive or conversational. Another challenge was designing prompts that adapt explanations based on difficulty level while maintaining clarity and structure. Balancing simplicity in the UI with rich learning output also required careful iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built an adaptive learning tool that adjusts explanations based on student needs and clearly demonstrates Gemini 3’s reasoning capabilities. The application goes beyond basic content generation by explaining why answers are correct and summarizing topics for last-minute revision. We are also proud of creating a clean, professional UI that looks like a real education product.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how powerful prompt design can be when working with large language models. We gained experience in structuring AI output for specific use cases—such as exam preparation—and learned how to align UI design with educational goals. We also learned how to clearly showcase AI reasoning in a practical application.
What's next for ExamWise
Future improvements include support for more subjects, exporting study guides as PDFs, tracking study progress, and adding personalized recommendations. We also plan to expand accessibility features to support different learning styles and languages.
