🎓 AI Study Buddy — Learn Anything, Instantly

💡 Inspiration

As a student, I know how frustrating it is to get stuck on a concept with no one to explain it clearly. Tutors are expensive. Textbooks are boring. Googling gives you 10 different confusing answers.

I wanted to build something that felt like having a smart, patient friend who could explain anything in simple terms — and then immediately test if you actually understood it.

🔨 What I Built

AI Study Buddy is a web app that lets any student type any topic and instantly receive:

1. ✅ A clear, simple explanation in plain language
2. 🌍 A real-world example to make it click
3. 🧠 A multiple choice quiz question to test understanding
4. 💬 Instant AI feedback on their answer — encouraging and educational

No login. No setup. Just type and learn.

⚙️ How I Built It

• Python + Flask for the backend web server
• Groq API (LLaMA 3.1) for blazing-fast AI responses
• HTML/CSS/JavaScript for a clean, modern frontend
• Vercel for deployment — live on the web in seconds
• Structured AI prompting to separate explanation, example, and quiz cleanly

🚧 Challenges I Faced

• Hiding the answer: The AI kept revealing the correct answer inside the quiz. I had to carefully engineer the prompt to prevent this.
• Parsing AI output: Splitting the AI's response into explanation vs. quiz sections required writing a custom parser in JavaScript.
• Model deprecation: The first model I used (LLaMA 3 8B) was decommissioned mid-build — had to debug and switch to llama-3.1-8b-instant quickly.

• How to integrate and prompt LLM APIs effectively
• How to build and deploy a full-stack Python web app
• The importance of prompt engineering — small wording changes completely change AI behavior
• How to deploy on Vercel with secure environment variables
