AI Study Buddy for JLPT

Inspiration

Learning Japanese for the JLPT often requires using multiple apps for vocabulary, grammar, kanji, and practice tests. As a JLPT learner myself, I wanted to create a single platform that combines all these resources and uses AI to provide personalized guidance and study support.

What it does

AI Study Buddy helps students prepare for JLPT exams from N5 to N1. It offers vocabulary flashcards, kanji practice, grammar lessons, mock tests, progress tracking, and an AI-powered Sensei that answers questions, explains concepts, and generates example sentences. The platform also creates personalized study plans based on user performance.

How we built it

We built the frontend using React and Tailwind CSS and deployed it on Vercel. The backend was developed with Node.js and Express, while AWS Aurora was used as the primary database. AI capabilities were integrated to provide tutoring, explanations, and personalized recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing an adaptive learning system that could identify weak areas and recommend the right content. We also had to structure educational content efficiently and ensure a smooth user experience across different devices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created an all-in-one JLPT learning platform that combines AI tutoring, smart revision, mock tests, and progress tracking. The personalized learning experience makes studying more engaging and effective.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how to integrate AI into educational applications, design personalized learning experiences, work with AWS cloud databases, and build scalable full-stack applications.

What's next for AI Study Buddy for JLPT

Future plans include speech and pronunciation analysis, AI-powered conversation practice, mobile app support, community study groups, and advanced analytics to help learners improve even faster.
