Inspiration

Students often struggle to discover relevant hackathon projects, identify the technologies used in existing projects, and find similar ideas before starting something new. I wanted to build an AI-powered student hackathon project repository that makes project discovery easier and helps identify potentially duplicate ideas.

What It Does

The project, AI Student Project Repository with Smart Tech Tagging, aims to provide a centralized platform where students can explore and share hackathon projects. Its planned AI features include automatically identifying technology stacks from project information and detecting similar project ideas using semantic similarity.

How I Built It

I developed the project using modern web development technologies and explored how AI and natural language processing could improve project organization and discovery. The planned technology stack includes Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, Firebase, Gemini API, spaCy, Sentence-BERT, and FAISS.

Challenges Faced

One of my main challenges was integrating the web application, database, and AI-powered features into a complete working system. Connecting the different components and making the AI features produce useful results required more time and testing than expected. At the time of submission, some features were still under development, and the project was not yet functioning as intended.

What I Learned

Through this project, I gained practical experience in web application development, AI integration, project architecture, and GitHub-based collaboration and version control. I also learned that building a useful AI application requires careful testing, reliable integration, and continuous improvement.

Future Improvements

My next steps are to complete the remaining features, improve automatic technology-stack tagging, integrate semantic similarity detection, test the application with real project descriptions, and make the platform more reliable and useful for students.

Real-World Impact

The long-term goal is to help students discover existing work, organize hackathon projects, explore technologies, and identify similar ideas before investing time in development. This project represents my ongoing effort to apply AI to practical challenges in education.
