AI Storyboarding Tool

Inspiration

The inspiration for my AI Storyboarding Tool arose from my passion for storytelling and the desire to simplify the process of creating compelling narratives. I recognized the challenges storytellers face when translating ideas into visual scenes and dialogue, particularly when it comes to structuring shots and capturing the essence of each scene.

What it does

The AI Storyboarding Tool changes the way stories are crafted and visualized. By inputting ideas into the tool, it automatically generates scene descriptions and dialogues based on those ideas. It also utilizes Coda AI to determine shot types, location settings, and other relevant details, providing a comprehensive and immersive storyboard experience. This allows storytellers to focus on the creative aspects of their work while the tool handles the technical aspects of scene composition.

How we built it

The tool largely uses the AI column in Coda to expand on ideas you give it for scenes in your storyboard. From there the AI is also used to categorize the shot for your scene, the time of day, and the location of your scene from select lists in the storyboarding table in Coda. Finally, we use the OpenAI pack to generate images for these scenes based on the scene descriptions.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the Open AI pack and Coda AI to work together was a bit of a difficult process but ended up creating a great storyboarding experience in Coda.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I love how I simplified a process that normally took me hours to do. Now I can get get a rough draft of a script together with just a few ideas kicking around my head. And the doc makes it easier than ever to communicate these ideas to others.

What we learned

I gained a deep understanding of the complexities involved in developing an AI-powered tool for Coda, including its strengths, weaknesses, and differences compared to other tools like ChatGPT.

What's next for AI Storyboarding Tool

I would love to find a way to stitch all the scenes into a traditional storyboard format not bound by the table in Coda.
