Inspiration
Thinking ahead to the upcoming fall semester we realized that many students such as ourselves struggle with time management be it in school or in normal day to day activities. There are other tools out there but ours turns natural speech into organized events.
What it does
It turns user submitted commands to create events on their schedule. The user can use normal terms which will be interpreted by the API to JSON files that get displayed on the calendar. The user can copy daily schedules over to other days, set up recurring events, use contextual scheduling where you make an event at a time in relation to a different event. The user can also export the generated calendar in a format which could be used with any modern calendar app.
How we built it
We built it using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript , and it has been deployed using Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
- Specific API model challenges like not being allowed to use certain models or models not fitting our use cases.
- Caching user data on their machine was difficult to implement.
- Balancing AI functionality with what our tools outside of it provide.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Getting the app to fully deploy on Vercel.
- Setting up schedule exporting.
What we learned
How to deploy apps with Vercel, caching data users-side and how to use Gemini API.
What's next for AI Smart Scheduler
Connecting our calendar to google calendar and similar services through their APIs for ease of use for the consumer.
