AI-SkillQuest10

Inspiration

Many learners and job seekers know the career they want but do not know exactly which skills they need to develop or what they should learn first.

Learning resources are often scattered across different sources, making it difficult for beginners and career changers to understand skill requirements, identify gaps, and create a structured learning path.

We wanted to build a platform that connects career goals → required skills → knowledge → learning paths → actionable next steps in one interactive experience.

This inspired us to create AI-SkillQuest10, an AI-powered career and skill development platform that combines an interactive React application with MOSS-powered knowledge retrieval.

What it does

AI-SkillQuest10 helps learners, students, career changers, and job seekers explore careers and understand the skills needed to progress toward their goals.

The platform provides:

  • Career and skill exploration
  • Technical and business skill information
  • Skill-related assessments and activities
  • Skill-gap identification
  • Structured learning roadmaps
  • AI-assisted career and skill guidance
  • Learning progression and progress tracking
  • Relevant knowledge retrieval using MOSS

For example, a user interested in becoming a Data Analyst can follow a structured path such as:

Excel → SQL → Statistics → Python → Power BI → Data Visualization → Portfolio Projects → Interview Preparation

MOSS Integration

MOSS is used as the retrieval layer for SkillQuest knowledge.

The retrieval flow is:

User Question ↓ AI-SkillQuest10 ↓ MOSS Knowledge Retrieval ↓ Relevant Skill/Career Knowledge ↓ AI Processing ↓ Personalized Guidance

The project includes a MOSS knowledge index containing 8 SkillQuest documents covering areas such as career guidance, skill development, learning roadmaps, assessments, next steps, challenges, and progress information.

How we built it

AI-SkillQuest10 was built as a React/Vite web application.

Technology Stack

Frontend

  • React
  • JavaScript
  • Vite
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • React Router

AI & Retrieval

  • MOSS as the knowledge retrieval layer
  • AI model integration for guidance and responses

Development & Deployment

  • Node.js
  • GitHub
  • Vercel

Architecture

The application follows a retrieval-based architecture:

User ↓ React + Vite Frontend ↓ MOSS Retrieval Layer ↓ SkillQuest Knowledge Index ↓ AI Response Processing ↓ Personalized Guidance

The SkillQuest knowledge is organized into indexed documents so that relevant information can be retrieved based on the user's question or career-learning context.

The application is deployed publicly through Vercel, while the source code is maintained in GitHub.

Challenges We Ran Into

One of the main challenges was designing a career-learning experience that could connect broad career goals with structured skill requirements.

Another challenge was organizing career and skill information into a retrieval-friendly knowledge structure rather than relying only on generic AI responses.

We also had to consider:

  • Structuring the SkillQuest knowledge documents.
  • Creating the MOSS knowledge index.
  • Connecting retrieval with the application workflow.
  • Designing a simple interface suitable for beginners.
  • Keeping the architecture scalable for additional career paths and skills.
  • Protecting API credentials and other sensitive configuration.
  • Deploying the application successfully to a public environment.

Integrating retrieval into the overall application architecture also required understanding how knowledge retrieval can support more relevant AI-assisted responses.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We built and deployed a working AI-powered career and skill development platform.

Key accomplishments include:

  • Built the AI-SkillQuest10 React/Vite application.
  • Created a structured SkillQuest knowledge base.
  • Created a MOSS knowledge index containing 8 indexed documents.
  • Integrated MOSS as the retrieval layer.
  • Built responsive navigation and the SkillQuest interface.
  • Created a structured career-to-skill learning approach.
  • Deployed the application publicly using Vercel.
  • Maintained the source code in GitHub.
  • Created a foundation that can be expanded with additional careers, skills, assessments, and learning resources.

What We Learned

Building AI-SkillQuest10 helped us understand how an AI application can combine a user interface, structured knowledge, retrieval, and AI-generated guidance.

We learned the importance of:

  • Structuring knowledge before using it for retrieval.
  • Designing retrieval around the actual user experience.
  • Connecting user questions with relevant knowledge.
  • Building a scalable frontend architecture.
  • Separating application logic from sensitive configuration.
  • Using GitHub for source-code management.
  • Deploying a React application through Vercel.
  • Thinking about AI systems as more than just a chatbot by incorporating structured knowledge retrieval.

The project also helped us understand how retrieval can provide a foundation for more focused and context-aware AI-assisted experiences.

What's Next for AI-SkillQuest10

AI-SkillQuest10 is designed as a foundation that can be expanded into a more comprehensive career development platform.

Planned future enhancements include:

Personalized User Profiles

Users could maintain their career goals, current skills, interests, and learning history.

Advanced Skill-Gap Analysis

The platform could compare a user's existing skills with the requirements of a selected career.

AI Career Coach

A conversational AI career coach could guide users throughout their learning journey.

Job-Market Integration

The platform could connect career skill requirements with current job-market information.

Personalized Learning Resources

The system could recommend courses, documentation, projects, and practice exercises based on identified skill gaps.

Progress Analytics

Users could receive visual analytics showing their skill-development progress.

Multi-Language Support

The platform could be expanded to support multiple languages and make career guidance accessible to a wider audience.

Ultimately, the vision is to evolve AI-SkillQuest10 into an intelligent career development platform that helps users move from:

Career Goal → Skill Gap → Learning Path → Practice → Progress → Career Readiness
