Inspiration
Many job seekers struggle to pass Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), even when they have the required skills. Recruiters often receive hundreds of resumes, making ATS optimization essential for getting shortlisted. We built AI-RESUME-TAILOR to help candidates quickly evaluate and improve their resumes for specific job descriptions using the power of Generative AI.
What it does
AI-RESUME-TAILOR analyzes a user's resume against a job description and generates a personalized ATS optimization report. Upload Resume (PDF) Paste Job Description Calculates ATS Match Score Identifies Missing Skills Finds Missing Keywords Generates an Improved Professional Summary Suggests Better Resume Bullet Points Downloads a professionally formatted ATS Report in PDF
The application provides instant feedback, helping users create stronger resumes before applying for jobs.
How we built it
The project was built using modern AI and Python technologies.
Tech Stack: Python Gradio Google Gemini API PyMuPDF (fitz) FPDF2 python-dotenv Git & GitHub Render (Deployment)
Workflow: Upload a PDF resume. Extract text using PyMuPDF. Send the resume and job description to Google Gemini. Generate ATS analysis in structured JSON format. Display the results in an interactive Gradio interface. Create and download a professional ATS Report in PDF format.
Challenges we ran into
During development, we encountered several technical challenges: Ensuring Gemini consistently returned valid JSON responses. Formatting AI-generated content into a clean PDF layout. Supporting Unicode fonts for special symbols. Fixing long text wrapping and page overflow issues in PDF reports. Managing file paths for deployment across Windows and Linux. Deploying the application on Render and resolving dependency and environment configuration issues. Improving the user interface to make downloading reports more intuitive. Each challenge helped improve the application's reliability and user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully built a complete AI-powered resume optimization tool. Integrated Google Gemini to generate personalized ATS recommendations. Created an intuitive Gradio interface requiring no technical knowledge. Generated downloadable professional ATS reports in PDF format. Successfully deployed the application for public access. Built the entire project using open-source tools and free-tier services.
