Inspiration

Every job seeker has that one resume they're secretly embarrassed about — full of buzzwords like "team player", "detail-oriented", and "passionate self-starter." I wanted to build something that calls out those clichés with humor, then actually fixes the problem. The idea: make resume improvement fun, shareable, and free for everyone — whether you're a fresh graduate in Addis Ababa or a senior developer in New York.

What It Does

AI Resume Roaster & Rebuilder is a web app that:

  • 📄 Accepts your resume via text paste or PDF upload
  • 🔥 Roasts it brutally — calling out every cliché, vague description, and weak action verb with sharp humor
  • 📊 Scores it out of 10 across 4 categories: Impact, Clarity, Cringe Factor, and Overall
  • ✨ Rebuilds it professionally — strong action verbs, quantifiable results, zero fluff
  • 📋 Lets you copy the rebuilt resume instantly
  • 🐦 Generates a pre-filled tweet to share your score

How I Built It

I built this entirely using MeDo — a no-code AI platform — without writing a single line of code manually.

Tools used:

  • MeDo — no-code app builder and hosting
  • Claude AI — powers the roast and rebuild engine
  • PDF.js — extracts text from uploaded PDF resumes
  • Anthropic API — returns structured JSON with scores, roast, and rebuilt resume

The AI is prompted to act as a brutally honest but funny resume coach — returning structured JSON with scores, roast text, quick improvement tips, and a fully rewritten resume.

Challenges I Ran Into

  • Getting the AI to be funny AND useful at the same time — too savage and it feels mean, too soft and it loses the humor
  • PDF text extraction for different resume formats — some PDFs are image-based and can't be parsed
  • Making the app mobile responsive while keeping the bold design intact
  • Balancing the roast vs rebuild — users need to laugh but also walk away with something actionable

Accomplishments I'm Proud Of

  • Built a fully functional AI app in under a day with zero traditional coding
  • The roast output is genuinely funny — tested on real resumes with real reactions 😂
  • PDF upload support makes it usable for anyone with a real resume file
  • The app is live and shareable with a public URL

What I Learned

  • No-code tools like MeDo are powerful enough to build real, production-ready AI apps
  • Prompt engineering matters — how you instruct the AI completely changes the output quality
  • Humor is a powerful UX tool — people share things that make them laugh
  • Building for a global audience means keeping the app simple, fast, and accessible
