Inspiration

Cooking ideas are everywhere, online videos, websites, or cookbooks, but turning them into a real meal can be confusing. We wanted a simple way to go from idea to ingredients to cooking.

What it does

Users can:

  • Take photos of cookbooks, fridge, or ingredients
  • Paste links from YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, or websites
  • See what ingredients they already have
  • Generate shopping lists
  • Get AI-inferred recipes from captions or photos
  • Plan meals automatically for the week
  • Create, manage, and export their own cookbooks with saved recipes

How we built it

  • Mobile app (iOS)
  • Processes photos, links, and text inputs
  • Extracts captions and titles from supported sources
  • Converts input into ingredient lists, shopping lists, and meal plans
  • Allows users to build their own cookbooks within the app
  • Smooth frontend experience for easy navigation and input

Challenges we ran into

  • Extracting captions and titles reliably from online sources
  • Handling different types of inputs (photos, links, text)
  • Designing automatic meal plans that are flexible and useful
  • Making recipe suggestions accurate and easy to follow
  • Building a user-friendly cookbook creation and management system

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Users can generate ingredient lists, recipes, and meal plans from multiple sources
  • Users can track what they already have and create shopping lists
  • Smooth UX with easy photo, text, and link inputs
  • Users can create, organize, and manage their own cookbooks within the app

What we learned

  • Simplifying inputs improves user experience
  • Handling multiple content sources is challenging but feasible
  • Auto meal planning adds real value
  • Letting users create their own cookbooks makes the app more personal and useful

What's next for AI Recipe Manager - CookIt

  • Add more social media integrations (Instagram, Facebook)
  • Improve ingredient recognition from fridge and cookbook photos
