AI Rapid Review is a demo of a fast, private, and cost-free web app that uses AI directly from within Google Chrome Canary to rapidly review question sets without the need for cloud computing.

Inspiration

Medical students preparing for national board exams face the overwhelming task of mastering the diagnosis and treatment of countless diseases. Reviewing this material in the days leading up to the exam can feel daunting. This app is designed to be a demo of a tool to simplify that process and help students rapidly review this material. This app can be modified for students in any field to rapidly and effectively prepare for exams.

What It Does

This app takes material hidden on a webpage and enables Google AI to process it. Students can then interact locally with Google AI to rapidly review and master this material using an efficient and cost-free method.

How I Built It

Using a custom webpage designed for medical students studying for national board exams, I wrote code that allows students to interact with Google AI. This integration enables the rapid review of hundreds of diseases quickly, effectively, and without any additional cost. The app leverages Chrome's built-in AI capabilities to make this process local.

Challenges I Ran Into

  • Writing Code with ChatGPT: While ChatGPT provided assistance in generating code, it often produced errors that required manual debugging and refinement.
  • Prompting Google AI: Crafting effective prompts for Google AI proved to be a challenge, requiring multiple attempts to result in accurate responses.

Accomplishments That I'm Proud Of

This app serves as a successful model of what is possible by leveraging Google AI locally within the browser. It demonstrates how this new technology can be applied to simplify learning in a cost-free environment.

What I Learned

I gained experience using Google Chrome Canary to participate in beta testing new features under development for the Chrome browser.

What's Next for AI Rapid Review

  • User Interface Improvements: Streamlining and enhancing the UI based on feedback from medical students using the app to make interactions more intuitive.
  • AI Prompt Optimization: Refining prompts to make responses more efficient and relevant.
  • Material Updates: Incorporating updates to Google AI and adapting the app for broader use for other subjects and exams.
