We participated in an international hackathon where our initial idea was to build an IoT-based system during our summer vacation. However, since we were away from our university campus, arranging funds and hardware resources became difficult. We also had a major concern: what if we invested time and money into building the hardware, only to discover at the end that it would not work as expected?
At that moment, we realized that many students and small startups face similar challenges. This inspired us to build ProtoVerse — an AI-powered virtual engineering platform where users can design and test IoT systems or any hardware-based projects virtually before building them physically.
ProtoVerse works through an immersive 3D workspace where users can create prototypes using a simple drag-and-drop approach. Even if users do not know which components are required, they can simply explain their idea to the AI Assistant. The AI automatically recommends and adds the necessary components into the workspace. Users can create wire connections using prompts, while the AI also generates code for each programmable component automatically. Once the design process is complete, users can test and validate their prototype using our realistic simulation environment, which evaluates the project in real-world scenarios.
To build ProtoVerse, we used MeDo.dev. Initially, we generated a basic UI structure and backend logic. We then continuously refined the project by providing precise prompts for individual features and workflows. MeDo helped us rapidly transform our idea into a functional platform within a very short time period.
Although MeDo significantly accelerated development and reduced major technical challenges, we did face some issues while improving the Builder section and integrating complex features. We also encountered generation issues such as "We hit a small issue," but through iterative prompting and refinement, we successfully resolved them and completed the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: • Built an AI-powered virtual prototyping platform for students and startups. • Integrated 3D design, coding, and simulation into one unified workflow. • Created a realistic hardware ecosystem with intelligent AI assistance. • Added AI-driven component recommendations, code generation, and debugging. • Reduced dependency on expensive physical hardware for rapid innovation and testing.
What we learned: Through ProtoVerse, we learned how AI, 3D design, and simulation can work together to simplify prototyping, automate engineering tasks, and create a more accessible innovation experience for students and startups.
What's next for ProtoVerse: Next for ProtoVerse is evolving into a complete AI-powered virtual engineering ecosystem with advanced 3D simulations, intelligent automation, digital twin technology, and collaborative engineering workspaces. Beyond student prototyping, we aim to expand into critical domains such as healthcare, aerospace, defense, industrial automation, smart cities, and other high-impact fields to accelerate innovation and solve real-world challenges.
