Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from the realization that, although extensive research and data about gender inequality exists globally, much of it remains trapped in long, complex reports that are not easily accessible to the people who need them most. I wanted to bridge the gap between information and action by making critical insights about gender equality easily understandable and usable. My goal was to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by empowering organizations, policymakers, and individuals to take informed action.
What it does
My platform enables users to upload gender-related reports from different countries. It uses a fine-tuned Gemini AI model to automatically analyze these documents, extract key insights, and present them through a simple, conversational interface. Users can ask questions like "Where are the biggest wage gaps?" or "What actions are recommended for political gender balance?" and receive direct, meaningful responses. This turns static documents into dynamic tools for awareness, advocacy, and policymaking
How we built it
I built the solution by fine-tuning a Gemini model on a curated dataset of gender equality documents and reports. We designed a user-friendly interface where users can upload their reports, and the model processes the text, generates insights, and enables a chat-based interaction for deeper analysis. We also focused on aligning the outputs with UN SDG targets to ensure relevance and impact.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was training the model to extract meaningful insights without getting lost in technical jargon or repetitive content often found in policy documents. Another challenge was designing a system that could adapt to documents from different countries, each with unique structures, cultural contexts, and languages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Am are proud my creation a working prototype that transforms complex gender reports into an interactive, easy-to-use knowledge base. The AI is capable of not just summarizing content, but also offering actionable insights that align with SDG 5 and SDG 10. I am especially proud that the platform can support both advocacy efforts and informed policymaking.
What we learned
I've learned how powerful AI can be in democratizing access to information and making social challenges like gender inequality more visible and understandable. I also learned the importance of grounding AI solutions in real-world frameworks like the Sustainable Development Goals to ensure that the technology drives meaningful impact, not just technical achievement.
What's next for AI-powered platform for gender equality documentanalysis.
Moving forward, am plan to expand the platform’s capabilities by supporting multilingual document analysis, improving the model’s ability to recommend specific actions, and integrating visualization tools to make the insights even more digestible. We also hope to partner with NGOs, universities, and UN agencies to test the platform in real-world scenarios, helping drive policy discussions and public awareness around gender equality challenges globally.
