AI-Powered Planner using Google Calendar
Inspiration
Managing daily schedules, festivals, and travel plans can be overwhelming. We wanted to create an AI-powered planner that automates event organization, provides structured routines, and enhances travel experiences with recommendations, all while integrating seamlessly with Google Calendar.
What It Does
- Generates a structured weekly routine based on upcoming calendar events.
- Detects and lists all festivals for the entire month with dates and AI-generated descriptions.
- Identifies travel plans for the month and provides AI-powered recommendations for destinations.
- Fetches real images for festivals and travel locations using Pexels API.
- Uses AI (Groq API) to generate time management tips, event insights, and travel suggestions.
How We Built It
- Google Calendar API – Fetches events, festivals, and travel plans.
- Groq LLaMA 3 API – Generates weekly routines, festival descriptions, and travel insights.
- Pexels API – Fetches real images for festivals and travel destinations.
- Streamlit – Provides an interactive UI for users to access their AI-generated planner.
- Python – Core backend for handling API requests and AI-driven text processing.
Challenges We Ran Into
- Event detection issues: Some Google Calendar events were not detected due to varying naming conventions.
- Travel plan filtering: Identifying travel-related events required improving keyword detection.
- API errors: Groq API model selection and endpoint mismatches initially caused failures.
- Image fetching limitations: Some festivals and locations had limited availability on Pexels API.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Successfully built an end-to-end AI-powered planner that integrates multiple APIs.
- Created an interactive and user-friendly UI using Streamlit.
- Improved event detection accuracy for both personal and holiday calendars.
- Ensured smooth AI-generated insights for routines, travel, and festivals.
What We Learned
- API rate limits and optimization: Managing multiple API requests efficiently.
- Event processing techniques: Improving detection of travel and holiday events.
- AI-generated text optimization: Fine-tuning LLaMA 3 API prompts for better responses.
- User experience considerations: Balancing automation with user customization.
What's Next for AI-Powered Planner Using Google Calendar
- Voice integration: Enable users to ask questions about their schedule via voice commands.
- Personalized recommendations: Suggest productivity techniques based on calendar patterns.
- Multi-user support: Allow collaborative planning for families or teams.
- Weather-based travel adjustments: Provide travel insights based on real-time weather updates.
- Integration with more APIs: Expand to include Google Maps for navigation and OpenAI’s DALL·E for custom images.
This project combines AI-powered automation with everyday planning, making it an efficient and intuitive smart assistant for managing life’s events.
