Inspiration

Mental health is often neglected due to busy schedules, lack of awareness, or social stigma. We wanted to create an AI-powered tool that offers people a simple, non-judgmental space to check in with themselves, access emotional support, and develop healthier habits—anytime, anywhere.

What it does

The AI-Powered Mental Wellness Companion is an interactive web application that allows users to: Share their emotions through text or facial expression (future scope). Receive supportive, personalized AI conversations. Get daily wellness tips, motivational quotes, and guided journaling prompts. Track mood and mental health trends over time. Set mental wellness goals and receive gentle reminders.

How we built it

We built the app using: Frontend: React + Tailwind CSS Backend: Node.js (optional future use) and mock AI using simple logic AI Interaction: OpenAI API (for emotional response generation) State Management: React Hooks Design: Figma (for UI planning), implemented with Tailwind utility classes Deployment: Vercel (or Netlify) Version Control: GitHub

Challenges we ran into

Designing a tone-sensitive AI response system Managing context awareness during conversations Balancing simplicity with useful features Ensuring the UI feels warm, calming, and responsive across devices

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a fully functional prototype within the hackathon time frame Created a sleek and user-friendly UI from scratch Successfully implemented AI-generated responses tailored to mood inputs Made an impact-focused product relevant to real-world issues

What we learned

How to design an empathetic user interface for sensitive use cases Integration of AI APIs for emotion-based text generation Building clean and accessible layouts with Tailwind CSS Importance of mental wellness in tech-driven lifestyles

What's next for AI-Powered Mental Wellness Companion

Add facial emotion detection via webcam Integrate voice-to-text for verbal emotional check-ins Store user wellness history with login support Collaborate with mental health experts to refine prompts Publish as a free web tool with mobile-first enhancements
