Inspiration
AI applications are becoming increasingly demanding in terms of compute, memory, and inference time. We wanted to explore how an AI workload could be made more efficient on Arm-powered systems rather than simply running the same model without optimization.
Our goal was to identify performance bottlenecks, apply practical optimizations, and measure the resulting improvements in areas such as inference speed, memory usage, and overall efficiency.
What we built
We built an AI optimization workflow that takes an AI model/workload and applies Arm-focused optimizations to improve its efficiency. The project focuses on making inference more practical on resource-constrained Arm-based hardware.
The system allows us to compare the original implementation against the optimized implementation using measurable performance metrics.
How we built it
We used Python and machine-learning libraries to implement and benchmark the workload. We profiled the original implementation, identified performance bottlenecks, applied optimization techniques, and then measured the optimized version under the same conditions.
The project is designed to be reproducible on an Arm64 environment, with setup and execution instructions provided in the source repository.
What we learned
We learned that simply running an AI model on Arm is not enough to demonstrate optimization. The important part is identifying a measurable bottleneck and showing how a technical change improves the workload.
We also learned about Arm architecture, AI inference performance, benchmarking, memory efficiency, and the importance of reproducible measurements.
Challenges we faced
The main challenges were setting up a consistent benchmarking environment, identifying meaningful performance bottlenecks, and ensuring that improvements were measured fairly between the original and optimized implementations.
Another challenge was balancing optimization with model functionality and output quality. An optimization is only useful if it improves efficiency without making the resulting system impractical.
Future improvements
We would like to extend the project with more Arm-specific optimizations, additional models, automated benchmarking, and broader testing across different Arm64 devices and workloads.
