Inspiration

Thalassemia patients need regular blood transfusions to survive, but many struggle to find donors, manage transfusion schedules, and access real-time blood data. Inspired by the work of NGOs-like Blood Warriors, we wanted to create a tech-based solution that not only supports patients and donors but also strengthens NGO efforts.

What it does

BloodLink is an AI-powered platform that: Matches Thalassemia patients with suitable blood donors. Sends smart transfusion and donation reminders. Displays real-time blood bank inventory. Features a multilingual awareness chatbot. Provides a dashboard for NGOs to manage donor-patient networks

How we built it

We used: React Native for the mobile app. Node.js & Express.js for the backend. Firebase for database and authentication. Python for AI-based donor matching logic. Dialogflow for building the multilingual chatbot. The platform is hosted on Google Cloud, ensuring scalability and accessibility.

Challenges we ran into

Limited access to real-time blood bank data due to lack of APIs. Ensuring offline access in low-connectivity areas. Building trust and motivation among donors. Managing privacy and encryption for health records.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developed a working prototype in a short span. Successfully implemented AI-based donor matching. Integrated a working chatbot in multiple languages. Designed an intuitive interface for both patients and NGOs.

What we learned

How AI can be applied meaningfully in healthcare. Importance of simplicity and accessibility in UI for all user types. Handling real-world challenges like data sensitivity and regional language support. Working as a team to manage tech, design, and impact together.

What's next for AI-Powered BloodLink: A Smart Ecosystem for Thalassemia Care

Real-time integration with local hospitals and blood banks. Launching a pilot in partnership with NGOs and Thalassemia centers. Enhancing the AI engine with predictive analytics for blood demand. Adding voice-enabled chatbot and offline SMS alerts. Scaling the platform across states and integrating with government health systems.
