Portfolio Compiler: AI-Powered Career Readiness & Portfolio Intelligence

Compile Your Skills. Validate Your Growth. Showcase Your Potential.

  1. Inspiration

Students often struggle to verify their technical skills, calculate academic performance accurately, practice interviews, and present their achievements professionally. Traditional resumes rely heavily on self-reported skills, making it difficult to demonstrate actual capabilities.

Inspired by how a compiler validates code and produces an output, we developed Portfolio Compiler to bring academic analysis, technical assessments, interview practice, and digital portfolio generation into one platform.

  1. Problem Statement

Existing career preparation methods lack an integrated approach to evaluating academic performance, technical knowledge, communication skills, and job readiness. Portfolio Compiler addresses this gap by helping students assess their strengths, identify skill gaps, and build professional digital portfolios.

  1. Key Features
  • Academic Verification: Calculates CGPA from supported academic inputs and highlights discrepancies with claimed values.
  • Technical Assessments: Provides 50-question MCQ tests across seven domains: UI/UX Design, Python, Data Structures and Algorithms, SQL, Machine Learning, Web Development, and Cloud and DevOps.
  • Mock Interview Simulator: Generates role-specific questions and analyzes speech rate and selected filler words using browser-based speech recognition.
  • Career Readiness Index: Combines profile completeness, skill matching, projects, interview performance, and assessment scores into a weighted readiness metric.
  • Digital Portfolio Generator: Organizes students' academic details, skills, projects, and achievements into a professional portfolio.
  1. Technical Approach

We developed Portfolio Compiler as a modular full-stack web application.

Technologies Used

  • Frontend: React 19, Vite 8, Tailwind CSS v4, Lucide React
  • Backend: Node.js 24, Express 5
  • Speech Analysis: Browser Web Speech API

Workflow: Student Information → Frontend → Backend Processing → Assessments and Readiness Evaluation → Digital Portfolio.

  1. Challenges and Solutions
  • Speech Recognition: Browser inconsistencies were addressed through recognition-state handling and alternative text input where supported.
  • Assessment Management: Question navigation, answer tracking, and completion validation were implemented to support reliable submissions.
  • Authentication: Guest access was provided for supported demonstration features while maintaining checks for protected operations.
  • Readiness Scoring: A weighted model was designed to combine different career preparation indicators into a unified score.
  1. Key Accomplishments
  • Integrated multiple career preparation features into one platform.
  • Structured assessments across seven technical and design domains.
  • Implemented assessment validation and server-side evaluation.
  • Incorporated browser-based speech analysis.
  • Developed a modular architecture for future improvements.
  1. What We Learned

We gained experience in full-stack development, API integration, secure assessment evaluation, browser-native technologies, weighted scoring models, and reliable application design.

  1. Real-World Impact

Portfolio Compiler aims to help students and fresh graduates prepare for internships and placements by organizing achievements, assessing technical knowledge, practicing interviews, and presenting their skills professionally. It also provides recruiters with structured candidate information to support initial screening.

  1. Future Enhancements
  • Automated marksheet data extraction using OCR.
  • Advanced interview feedback using consent-based video analysis.
  • Verifiable digital skill credentials.
  • Personalized learning recommendations.
  • Enhanced portfolio customization and publishing.
  1. Conclusion

Portfolio Compiler combines academic analysis, technical assessments, interview practice, and digital portfolio generation to make career preparation more structured and accessible. It helps students identify areas for improvement and showcase their capabilities more effectively.
