1- Inspiration:

Living in Cairo, I regularly noticed public issues that go unresolved for weeks—broken streets, water leaks, damaged sidewalks, and parking violations. Most people want to report these problems, but the process is slow or unclear. I wanted to build a tool that makes reporting issues simple, fast, and accessible to everyone. That idea led to CairoCrew, a community-powered reporting platform that helps citizens contribute to improving their own city.

2- What it does:

CairoCrew allows users to report public issues by simply placing a pin on a map, adding a short description, and optionally uploading a photo. All reports are stored in a centralized system, where users can track updates in real time.

Administrators can review reports, update their status, and notify users when issues are resolved. The app creates a transparent, efficient communication channel between citizens and service providers.

Core functionality includes: -Map-based reporting -Issue descriptions and image uploads -Real-time status tracking -Admin dashboard for reviewing and updating reports -Push notifications for report progress

3-How we built it:

We developed CairoCrew as a mobile application using Flutter, with a backend powered by Firebase. Technologies used: -Flutter for the mobile UI and app architecture -Google Maps API for interactive map views and pinned locations -Firebase Authentication for secure login -Cloud Firestore for real-time issue storage and updates -Firebase Storage for image uploads -Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications -Fastlane CI/CD and Firebase App Distribution for rapid testing and deployment

The system was designed to be scalable, responsive, and easy for both users and admins to navigate.

4-Challenges we ran into:

Designing a map interface that updates in real time without performance issues Handling image upload and retrieval efficiently Setting up reliable cloud messaging to deliver instant notifications Implementing secure authentication and Firestore rules Ensuring smooth communication between the mobile app and admin workflow Optimizing UX so users can submit an issue in just a few seconds These challenges pushed us to refine the architecture and improve app performance.

5-Accomplishments that we're proud of:

Building a fully functional reporting system with real-time updates Integrating a clean, intuitive map-based interface Successfully implementing push notifications Creating a workflow that benefits both citizens and administrators Setting up CI/CD to streamline development Delivering an app that can genuinely help improve public services

6-What we learned:

Throughout the project, we gained experience with: Advanced Google Maps integration in Flutter Efficient data modeling for location-based systems Building real-time cloud applications with Firestore Managing media uploads and cloud storage Creating CI/CD pipelines using Fastlane Improving user experience through fast reporting flows Testing and distributing mobile apps through Firebase App Distribution This project strengthened our understanding of scalable mobile architecture and real-world problem solving.

7-What's next for CairoCrew App:

Future improvements include: Adding role-based dashboards for government departments Implementing AI to classify reports automatically Introducing upvoting so communities can highlight urgent issues Adding heatmaps for frequently reported areas Providing analytics and insights for city planners Adding multi-language support Expanding to more cities beyond Cairo

CairoCrew has the potential to become a city-wide platform that brings citizens and service providers closer together to solve public issues more efficiently.
