Inspiration

Students often miss valuable internships, scholarships, hackathons, workshops, and placement opportunities because information is scattered across PDFs, emails, university portals, WhatsApp groups, and social media. Manually searching through these sources is time-consuming and inefficient. We wanted to build an AI-powered platform that automatically discovers, organizes, and recommends opportunities, ensuring no student misses an important deadline.

What it does

AI Noticeboard & Opportunity Finder automatically scans notices from PDFs, emails, and other sources. Using AI and OCR, it extracts key information such as the title, organization, eligibility, deadline, category, and rewards. The platform then summarizes the content, categorizes opportunities, and displays them in a clean dashboard with powerful search and filtering capabilities.

How we built it

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS
  • Backend: Node.js, Express.js
  • Database: Prisma ORM
  • AI: OpenAI API for intelligent extraction and summarization
  • OCR & PDF Processing: Tesseract OCR and PDF parsing libraries
  • Authentication: JWT-based authentication

Workflow

  1. Upload a PDF or fetch notices from emails.
  2. Extract text using PDF parsing or OCR.
  3. Send the extracted text to the AI model.
  4. AI identifies opportunities and extracts structured information.
  5. Store the data in the database.
  6. Display categorized opportunities on the dashboard with deadline tracking.

Challenges we ran into

  • Processing scanned PDFs with different layouts.
  • Extracting accurate information from unstructured documents.
  • Handling inconsistent notice formats from multiple sources.
  • Optimizing AI responses for speed while maintaining accuracy.
  • Designing a responsive dashboard that presents large amounts of information clearly.

What we learned

This project strengthened our understanding of AI-powered document processing, prompt engineering, OCR, full-stack development, API integration, database design, and building scalable applications. We also learned how AI can transform unstructured data into meaningful insights that solve real-world problems.
