Inspiration

When we started out, we had no ideas for what we should do for this project, but we knew that a good place to start the brainstorming process was with ChatGPT. One of the ideas that GPT came up with was a Q&A feature where people could asked legal questions. This idea led us to a similar but distinctly different idea that we had not seen before.
Everyone eventually runs into near indecipherable legal documents relating to terms and conditions when signing up for something or creating a new account of some sort. We wanted a way to turn that information into something a lot easier to understand. We decided to create a website that could do exactly that.

What it does

Our website takes inputs/legal documents that have been uploaded and has an AI process the information, find the most important information, and display it to the user in an easy to understand way that avoids jargon.

How we built it

We started by brainstorming and forming our ideas, defining the scope, and determining what APIs we would use. Afterwards, we conveyed the information to Kiro AI, defined the requirements, added the tasks we wanted the AI to complete, and created our first iteration of the code.

Challenges we ran into

As I said before, we ran into problems with coming up with an idea, but we also ran into issues with uploading documents to the website. We could import the document, but the code had issues analyzing the document which led to errors. However, this was our first iterations, so the bugs were expected.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very happy that we were able to figure out how GitHub repositories work, and we are proud that we were able to create a website that has some functionality even if it isn't perfect. Hackathons are all about learning and gaining real experience with quick problem solving, and I think that we did that here.

What we learned

We learned how to use GitHub and how to create repos that will accept the changes that we made to it on the remote level. We also learned how difficult it can be to combine both front end and back end programming together as well as how to implement APIs into a website.

What's next for LegalEase

If we had more time, we had plans to add a feature where the user could get in contact with lawyers in the area as well as ask questions about the law that may be applicable to you. One other smaller addition we would have added would have been the ability to accept other file types on the website.
