Inspiration

Memory is fragile. For individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia, it can slip away like sand through their fingers. Families struggle to communicate, and patients often feel lonely, frustrated, or lost in their own thoughts. I wanted to change that. I dreamed of giving memories a second life—and that’s how AI Memory Jogger was born.

What it does

AI Memory Jogger is more than an app; it is a companion. It allows patients to preserve their stories, songs, and laughter—whether in voice or text—safely in the cloud. Memories come alive: visually, emotionally, and interactively. Patients can play simple games to exercise their memory, while AI narration recreates the warmth of a loved one’s story or the joy of a favorite song.

Daily reminders and milestone tracking help patients stay connected to the world around them, while caregivers can monitor progress discreetly and respectfully. Disconnected memories are no longer lost—they breathe again.

How I built it

The interface was crafted using React and shadcn/ui, enabling smooth navigation via React Router and efficient data handling through TanStack Query. The Supabase-based backend handles authentication, cloud storage, and edge operations seamlessly.

AI Memory Jogger’s intelligence comes from:

  • Lovable AI / Gemini: Automates memory recollection naturally.
  • ElevenLabs: Delivers realistic, emotionally rich voice interactions.
  • iTunes API: Brings back songs that defined a patient’s life story.
  • Deno edge functions: Ensure the app works anywhere with environmental consciousness.

Challenges

The journey was not easy. I had to secure sensitive memory data while allowing caregivers meaningful access, ensure AI preserved the emotional tone of each memory, synchronize speech-to-text and text-to-speech for smooth interaction, and carefully balance privacy with functionality.

Achievements

I am proud that AI Memory Jogger now:

  • Recollects memories emotionally.
  • Operates within a role-conscious, patient-friendly system.
  • Offers a scalable architecture that makes every interaction feel personal and immediate.

This project taught me the depth of human-centered design in healthcare, the power of AI with emotional intelligence, and the art of making highly personal experiences accessible and meaningful through technology.
