AI Job Search Copilot
Inspiration
Applying for jobs is often repetitive and time-consuming. Candidates spend hours searching for suitable positions, tailoring resumes, and checking whether they meet job requirements. As a graduate student actively applying for jobs, I experienced this frustration firsthand. I wanted to build an AI assistant that could automate these repetitive tasks while still allowing users to stay in control of their applications.
What it does
AI Job Search Copilot helps job seekers throughout the application process.
It can:
- Discover relevant job opportunities
- Analyze job descriptions
- Calculate ATS compatibility
- Tailor resumes for each application
- Generate application-ready documents
- Organize application progress
- Help users focus on the highest-value opportunities
Instead of replacing applicants, it acts as an intelligent copilot that speeds up the entire workflow.
How I built it
The project combines GPT and Codex to coordinate different parts of the workflow.
GPT is responsible for understanding job descriptions, evaluating resume compatibility, and generating tailored content.
Codex manages automation tasks and project workflows, helping coordinate document generation and repetitive operations.
The project also integrates structured markdown workflows, GitHub version control, and resume templates to create a repeatable job application pipeline.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing automation with personalization.
Automatically generating resumes is easy, but producing resumes that remain truthful, concise, and ATS-friendly is much harder.
Another challenge was coordinating multiple AI-assisted steps while keeping the workflow transparent and allowing users to review everything before applying.
What I learned
This project showed me that AI is most useful when it augments human decision-making instead of replacing it.
Rather than applying to hundreds of jobs automatically, AI can help people make better decisions, prepare higher-quality applications, and spend more time on interviews instead of repetitive work.
What's next
Future improvements include:
- One-click application support
- Interview preparation with AI
- Personalized career planning
- Multi-language resume support
- Smarter job recommendations based on user preferences
