Inspiration

As college students we struggle with preparing for job interviews and don't have many ways to practice except either paying for costly mentorship programs or asking our professors.

What it does

AI interviewer provides an AI mock interview experience to college students by providing a platform for them to get a personalized interviews as well as personalized feedback on their interviews based on their resumes, companies they are interested in and their career interests.

How we built it

We used Next.js (React Framework) to build our framework. We got help from Generative AI tools like create.xyz and chatGPT. Additionally, we built a backend using flask framework (python) and created a local storage through storing information through .json files.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into problems with text-to-speech and speech-to-text as well as AI avatars and we finally figured out using a browser based TTS and STT, however didn't have enough time to figure out integrating an AI avatar that is live. Additionally, we wanted to use MONGODB as a database, however realized we were too ambitious with our resources (time) so had to switch to using local storage. Lastly, the biggest challenges have been finding a solid idea that solves a real problem but through a long brainstorming session we figured out a great idea based on some of the problems that us and our friends face.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of creating an entire full-stack application that integrates AI agents and gives personalized interviewing and feedback. It was our first time ever using TTS and STT technology this has been a big learning experience and the fact that we didn't give up in the face of uncertainty and lack of knowledge and instead chose to go towards fear and uncertainty and figure it out along the way has been something that made is incredibly proud!

What we learned

We learned how to use TTS and STT with browser technology, google cloud API, and openAI API. Also, we learned how to use Next.js and CSS better while also learning how to integrate AI agents to our full-stack application! In summary, integrating AI agents, building a full-stack application with next.js and overall learning and creating TTS and STT technology has been major learning points for us.

What's next for AI Interviewer

We are planning to market to make a more user-friendly interviewing experience for college students by adding a more interactive avatar and improving the individualized feedback loop. In the future, we believe our technology can be used by many college students to improve their confidence, many career services in colleges to guide students and even by companies to give students an idea about what it is like to interview in their companies.
