Inspiration

I grew up in a place where speaking your mind could cost you everything. I was attacked and held hostage at my workplace for opposing a dictatorial regime. I fled to the U.S. seeking safety and freedom—only to find myself overwhelmed by the complexity of the immigration process. By building a tool that can help simplify and support the process, my goal is to help others so they don’t have to go through that journey alone like I did.

What it does

My AI Immigration Guide is a human-like video AI assistant that guides immigrants through legal ways to enter or stay in the U.S. It uses Tavus to simulate expert conversations—where the agent can see and respond to the user, creating an empathetic, personalized, and supportive experience.

The app supports users by:

  • 🧭 Recommending personalized legal pathways (work, study, asylum, family reunification, investment)
  • 🪪 Simulating real interviews for Green Card and Citizenship
  • 🗣️ Helping users practice English for everyday conversations
  • 🧠 Saving conversation transcripts and delivering tailored summaries for each session

How I built it

I used the following tools:

  • Bolt.new to create the web interface and app logic
  • Tavus to power real-time AI video agents with face-to-face interaction
  • Supabase to handle user authentication and securely store transcripts

Everything was built without writing traditional code—just using powerful tools to build for impact.

Challenges

  • Creating human-like, emotionally aware conversations through video
  • Making legal guidance clear and accessible for users with different education levels
  • Managing real-time storage and retrieval of transcripts in a way that feels seamless
  • I discovered that sometimes features work flawlessly in production within Bolt, but upon deployment those same features may break, and I am learning how to navigate bug-fixes as a non-developer

What I learned

Technology can feel human when it’s built with empathy. I learned that video-based AI can build trust where a chatbot cannot—and that platforms like Bolt and Tavus can give life to ideas that once felt impossible for non-coders.

Most of all, I learned that when you design for the vulnerable, simplicity, dignity, and clarity are ot just features—they’re responsibilities.
