Inspiration

EcoLoop was inspired by the growing global waste crisis and our shared passion for sustainability. We envisioned a world where unused items aren't discarded but instead become part of a circular system that benefits the environment and communities.

During the hackathon, we asked ourselves: "What if we could use AI to make sustainability more accessible, smarter, and actionable?" That question led us to create EcoLoop

What it does

EcoLoop is an AI-powered sustainability platform that transforms waste into valuable resources. It connects users with:

Local upcyclers and creators

NGOs and charities

Recycling centers

Through smart classification and matchmaking, EcoLoop ensures unused items are repurposed, donated, or recycled—instead of ending up in landfills.

How we built it

We built EcoLoop in just a few days during a hackathon using Bolt.new AI, a collaborative platform for building AI applications rapidly.

Tech Stack:

Frontend: React.js + Tailwind CSS

Backend: Node.js + Firebase

AI Model: Bolt.new AI for item classification and intelligent recommendations

Deployment: Netlify

Bolt.new allowed us to prototype and deploy our AI component quickly, saving us time and making AI integration seamless.

Challenges we ran into

Limited training data: Teaching the AI to recognize diverse item types was tough, especially under a hackathon deadline

Data quality: Ensuring the information fed into the system was reliable and consistent

Time constraints: Balancing feature ambition with practical delivery in a limited timeframe

Real-time matching: Building a matching system that felt intelligent and efficient on short notice
