Inspiration

Indie filmmakers and production teams often spend more time juggling logistics—script analysis, call sheets, budgeting, and shot list coordination—than focusing on creative direction. We wanted to build an intelligent assistant that acts as an extra producer on set, automating administrative overhead so creators can focus on storytelling

What it does

AI Film Production Assistant serves as an end-to-end co-pilot for film production teams.

Script Breakdown: Parses uploaded screenplays to extract characters, locations, props, and scene beats automatically.

Automated Scheduling & Call Sheets: Generates production schedules and daily call sheets based on cast availability and location constraints.

Budget Tracking: Monitors estimated vs. actual expenses across departments in real time.

Agentic Workflows: Coordinates tasks across different crew leads using intelligent multi-agent automation.

How we built it

Frontend: Built with React/Next.js for an intuitive dashboard layout.

Backend: Node.js / Python service layer handling script parsing and data pipelines.

AI & Agentic Framework: Powered by LLMs for structured extraction and multi-agent coordination (e.g., CrewAI / AutoGen framework).

Database: PostgreSQL for persistent production data, combined with vector search for context retrieval across scripts.

Challenges we ran into

Context Maintenance: Retaining nuanced creative context (like character arcs or scene moods) while parsing technical screenplay formats.

Multi-Agent Coordination: Preventing agent looping and ensuring accurate schedule conflict resolution when parameters shifted dynamically.

Format Parsing: Standardizing unstructured screenplay PDFs/documents into consistent JSON schemas.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully parsing complex multi-scene scripts into structured production reports in under a minute.

Seamless multi-agent collaboration where one agent flags budget overages while another suggests alternative shooting schedules.

Creating a clean, producer-ready UI designed specifically for on-set workflow.

What we learned

Effective prompt engineering techniques for structured JSON output from long-context scripts.

Designing multi-agent communication protocols that minimize API latency without sacrificing decision quality.

What's next for AI film production assistant

Integration with storyboard generation tools for direct visual pre-visualization.

Live collaborative editing for multi-department sync on active shoot days.

Native mobile applications for cast and crew access on set.
