AI-Based Digital Identity & Document Assistant

Inspiration

Managing important personal documents is often confusing and time-consuming. People struggle to keep documents organized, quickly find the right file, understand complex legal or financial content, and remember renewal dates. We wanted to solve this problem by creating an AI-powered assistant that makes document management simple, secure, and intelligent.

What it does

The platform allows users to securely upload and manage personal documents in one place. Using OCR and AI, it automatically extracts text, categorizes documents, generates easy-to-read summaries, enables natural language search, answers questions about uploaded files, and sends reminders before important documents expire.

How we built it

We built the frontend using React, TypeScript, Viet, and Tailwind CSS, while the backend is powered by Node.js and Express.js. Firebase Authentication secures user accounts, Firebase Storage stores encrypted documents, and Fire store manages metadata. Google Gemini API provides document understanding and AI chat capabilities, while OCR is used to extract text from scanned images and PDFs.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges were accurately extracting text from different document formats, improving AI responses for complex documents, implementing secure cloud storage, and building a fast natural language search experience while protecting user privacy.

What we learned

This project gave us hands-on experience with OCR, large language models, secure authentication, cloud storage, AI-powered semantic search, and integrating multiple technologies into a real-world application.

What's next

We plan to integrate Digi Locker, add multilingual voice support, enable secure document sharing, detect fraudulent documents, and provide offline access for essential files.

Impact

Our goal is to make personal document management smarter, faster, and more secure, helping users save time, reduce stress, and access important information whenever they need it.
