Inspiration

As a busy parent of three and a full-time project manager during the work week, I constantly struggle with the everyday headache of meal planning.
The endless repetition of "What’s for dinner?", picky eaters, dietary needs, and last-minute shopping makes it exhausting and a chore. So I thought what if AI can help!?
I wanted to create something that makes life easier for families like mine. But I must admit, I built this for myself. :D

What it does

Core Features:

  • User Profiles & Preferences: Set up individual profiles for each family member with their likes, dislikes, allergies, and dietary needs to ensure tailored meal recommendations. -_Meal Plan Generator _: Generate diverse meal plans (lunch, dinner or both) based on preferences, pre-set time limits and family size.
  • Meal Plan Calendar: View meals in a weekly calendar, click to see recipe details and accept or reject to regenerate recipe.
  • _Recipe Management _: Save and search favourite recipes.
  • _Cook From What You Have _: Enter what’s in your fridge and get meal ideas that use mostly what you already have, with missing items flagged.

How we built it

  • Bolt.new for generating the working prototype
  • ChatGPT for prompt iteration and logic clarity

Challenges we ran into

For my first try, I forgot to include the build with Bolt badge, so I had to start a new project and include that to meet the criteria.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I created all this with just one prompt.

What we learned

  • That specifying the style and design makes a huge difference. Otherwise, Bolt creates similar-looking apps.
  • How to write detailed, structured prompts that turn a fuzzy concept into a working prototype

What's next for AI Family Meal Planner

I am looking forward to starting to use it with my family, but for that I will have to plug it into Supabase, to store the data for saved recipes and user profiles. Also, to implement the AI feature by integrating one of the GenAI models.
