AI Fact Checker for Elderly

With the proliferation of technology, fake news has become increasingly prevalent, especially in online media. Our project focuses on fact checking text-based articles or statements to determine the reliability of the source. It uses AI to recognise and fact check statements against data that can be found online to prove the reliability of the source. The program returns results, "factually correct", "misleading or false", "needs further verification", "AI confident in result", "Needs human verification", based on a confidence level coded in the program. This allows the user, who are mainly the elderly based on our target audience who are more prone to falling victim to fake news due to many not being IT savvy, to make more prompt decisions based on the program’s output. Our program will be able to flag out statements, or claims which are not able to be backed by substantial data on the web. This allows only reliable and validated information to go through as "AI confident in result". Any flagging of the article will prompt users to do more research about the subject matter. This prevents the dissemination of potentially misleading and false information.
