Inspiration Managing personal finances is a challenge for millions of Indians, especially students and young professionals. We often don't realize where our money is going until it's already spent. There's no smart, accessible tool that not only tracks expenses but also tells you what to do about them. That's what inspired us to build the AI Expense Analyzer.
What It Does AI Expense Analyzer is a smart web application that helps users understand and improve their spending habits using the power of Google Gemini AI. Users can:
Add their daily expenses by category (Food, Transport, Shopping, etc.) Get an instant Financial Health Score out of 100 See a category-wise breakdown of their spending Receive personalized AI insights — warnings, tips, and observations Get actionable savings tips tailored to their actual expenses View a 50/30/20 budget suggestion for better financial planning Chat with Gemini AI and ask questions like "Where am I spending the most?"
How We Built It
Frontend: Pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — no frameworks needed AI Engine: Google Gemini 1.5 Flash API for expense analysis and chat Architecture: Single-file web app — no backend, no server, runs directly in the browser API Integration: Direct REST calls to Gemini API from the frontend

Getting Gemini to return consistent structured JSON responses required careful prompt engineering Making the app work as a single HTML file without any backend was tricky but we pulled it off Designing prompts that give specific, numbers-based insights instead of generic advice
