Inspiration

We've brainstormed some ideas for AI usage with Atlassian tools and picked the one that seamed feasible to build in short time. We wanted to help busy managers to make informed decisions on the Confluence content requiring their attention.

We've noticed that there are currently no plugins available that would allow to summarize Confluence pages easily. We've looked for possibilities to utilize the feature as much as possible and that's how we came up with ideas of Slack notifications and a macro summarizing the subpages.

What it does

The plugin allows to add an AI-generated summary of Confluence pages. There are two macros:

  1. first adds a summary of the chosen page
  2. the other uses these summaries to list and describe subpages Automating the summarization of Confluence pages can be valuable for users who have limited time or need to review multiple pages. The summary can be placed anywhere on the page using a macro and can also be generated for multiple pages or as a summary of recent changes. Users could receive notifications containing the summary via Slack allowing them to make informed decisions about which documents to prioritize

Challenges we ran into

Forge has still some limitations that required a few workarounds, especially regarding UI. The other problem was the limit of the query send to AI. With long running background tasks we had to make sure app will be able to generate the summary.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’ve created a fully functional product within two weeks!

What we learned

We now know and understand how to prepare ChatGPT bot to work and how to integrate it with other tools.

What's next for AI Executive Summary for Confluence

We want to develop it further adding more options to allow customization of the generated summaries. The notification feature will cover emails and Discord.
We will surely make the app available on Atlassian Marketplace shortly.
